Abstract

GaSe and ZnGeP₂ crystals, having at the moment the largest bulk second-order nonlinearities (15 times larger than in LiNbO₃ of all nonorganic crystals in practical use, were originally proposed for nonlinear optics applications more than 20 years ago. However, the optical parametric generation (OPG) with these crystals has not been achieved until recently,¹ due to the lack of an appropriate laser pump source.
