Abstract

Optical parametric generators (OPGs) with GaSe and ZnGeP2 crystals, which possess the largest bulk second order nonlinearities (15 times larger than in LiNbO3) of all non-organic crystals in practical use, have not been achieved until recently[1]. The reason was the lack of appropriate laser pump sources, and deficiency of good quality crystals. We report here on Er3+:Cr3+:YSGG laser pumped OPG with extremely wide continuous tuning range covering 2.5 octaves, based on high quality GaSe and ZnGeP2 crystals.
