Abstract
Synchronously pumped (SP) optical parametric oscillators (OPO) are very attractive as a source of ultrashort pulses easily tunable over a wide spectral range from ultraviolet to infrared.1 We report here on both experimental and numerical results that show that the dispersive walk-off between the pump and oscillating pulses in the nonlinear crystal in the SPOPO leads to compression of the oscillating pulse well above threshold.
