Abstract
The properties of a metal surface can be significantly modified by doping with nonmetallic elements.1,2 Lasers offer a valuable tool for this kind of processing; UV excimer lasers are especially well suited to forming a very thin alloy layer on a metal surface because of the high absorption of UV light by metals, leaving other parts of the material unaltered.
