Abstract
Optical switching and logic systems place stringent requirements on the power, focusability, wavelength, and repetition rate of the optical power supply.1 Solid state lasers are the preferred choice of power supply due to their ability to best meet the requirements.2 We have demonstrated these requirements in the Nd class of lasers. However, these lasers suffer a wavelength incompatibility with most switching devices. We report here an extension of our previous work to a new solid state laser source. The Ti:sapphire laser shares many of the advantageous qualities of the Nd laser and also operates at a tunable wavelength between 690 nm and 1.1 μm well suited for GaAs based devices.
