Abstract

The chemically pumped oxygen iodine laser (COIL) is a powerful and efficient laser with a 1.315-µm wavelength in the minimum loss range of the power transmission characteristics of silica fibers. It is a fascinating candidate for an industrial laser which can deliver high cw power through silica fibers. Thus its practical use as a laser for 3-D shape processing is expected to be developed.
