Abstract
It has previously been demonstrated that laser-induced tissue autofluorescence can be used to distinguish a normal artery from atheroma in cadaveric tissues and, with limited success, in animal models.1–3 This technique could be used as a possible guidance system to direct laser ablation of atherosclerotic plaques or as a diagnostic to aid in selecting other treatment modalities.
