Loosening bandwidth limitations for crossed-beam Raman amplification

Abstract

Many Raman amplifier designs use crossed-beam geometries in which there are large angles (>3°) between the pump and Stokes seed inputs. Since intensity inhomogeneities in the pump beam profile will traverse the Stokes beam during amplification, the output Stokes profile is not very sensitive to these variations.1,2
