Abstract
The results of optical absorption, luminescence and decay time measurements on as grown, reduced and oxidized Y2SiO5 crystals co-doped with Cr and Mg are reported. The dominant absorption and emission bands in as-grown samples are assigned to transitions on the Cr4+ ion in distorted tetrahedral site. Additional near infrared emitting center was observed distinctly in oxidized crystals.
