Deformed shape microcavity lasers based on transformation optics are demonstrated for the first time, which exploit whispering gallery modes (WGMs) free from Q-degradation. Q spoiling caused by the boundary shape deformation is recovered by spatially varying nanohole density distribution. See Y.-H. Lee et al., pp. A35–A43.
