Abstract
The effect of accumulated optical-amplifier-induced noise on the pulse propagation in a dispersive single-mode optical fiber is theoretically investigated. As a result of this effect, the pulse is weakened at the central part and long dispersive tails are produced, resulting in significant loss of signal power during a 1-bit time period. This situation becomes more severe as the bandwidth of the noise spectrum increases.
