Abstract
An exact solution is obtained that describes the anisotropic behavior of Vistin'-Pikin-Bobylev flexoelectric domains (a variable-grating mode, or VGM) excited by the simultaneous action of orienting high-frequency and dc voltages. Based on this solution, exact formulas are computed that describe threshold voltages Uc and wave number qc as a function of high-frequency voltage Uac and the physical parameters of a liquid crystal (LC) in the case of rigid coupling of the LC on the surface of LC cells. A direct relationship is established between Uc and qc after eliminating Uac. Based on the resulting formulas, computations are carried out that determine the optimum values of the physical parameters of a nematic. They can improve the quality both of LC devices constructed on the VGM principle and of gratings based on flexoelectric domains.
