Abstract

A conditional equiprobability-density ellipse is obtained to study theoretically the second-order conditional statistics of phase for partially developed Gaussian speckle fields in the far-field diffraction region in the case for which the rough surface is illuminated by a plane Gaussian laser beam. The conditional distributions of the speckle phase are evaluated, for convenience, by using a phase angle defined as the extent of the conditional equiprobability-density ellipse stretched from the origin in the complex plane of the speckle amplitude. At the same time, the behavior of the conditional equiprobability-density ellipse is investigated for several different cases.
