Abstract

An alternative representation for the equivalent-network approach is suggested with a rigorous but simple Fourier-integral formulation to analyze rectangular dielectric waveguides and their arrays. Accurate results are obtained for the rectangular dielectric waveguides, and significant corrections are made to previous estimations [ Opt. Lett. 10, 86 ( 1985)] of the coupling length in a directional coupler with a rectangular core.
