Abstract
A new holographic technique is suggested to reduce computing time and storage requirements by orders of magnitude in comparison with conventional computer-generated Fresnel holograms. Sizable holograms are achieved by a vertical repetition of the basic pattern. The image to be reconstructed is specified in several planes in depth in the vicinity of a Fourier plane, and a cylindrical phase factor is superimposed onto each component. The reconstructed image is shift invariant in the vertical direction and slightly astigmatic. The feasibility of this technique is demonstrated by optical reconstructions.
