Abstract

First, a construction of a Wiener filter is presented by combining phase-conjugated and conventional mirror reflections; the input wave propagates through a phase-conjugate filter previously described by the authors [ J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 2, 1863 ( 1985)] and, after reflection by a deformable mirror, propagates back through the same filter. With this construction, the dynamic range can be greatly enhanced, and the amplitude and phase of the Wiener filter can be modulated independently by using two deformable mirrors. Next, numerical analyses are made of the effects of the dynamic range of the Wiener filter on image restoration. It is shown in detail that the dynamic range required depends on the magnitude of blurring and the spectrum of original image.
