Abstract

In colorimetry, the additivity of luminance is described by Abney’s law. In the present study it is shown how the luminance coefficients governing Abney’s law are transformed if the colorimetric reference system is changed through a linear transformation: the luminance coefficients are transformed contragrediently to the tristimulus values. In other words, the matrix that describes the transformation of luminance coefficients is derived by transposing and inverting the matrix that describes the transformation of tristimulus values.
