Form of the electromagnetic field in the groove region of a perfectly conducting echelette grating

Abstract

When the electric field is parallel to the grooves, we show that, in general, this field cannot be represented by an expansion of the type n=1cnJν(kr)sin[ν(θ-α)], with ν = /γ and γ the apex angle. Such an assumption has been used, for example, by Jovicevic and Sesnic [ J. Opt. Soc. Am. 62, 865 ( 1972)].
