Results are presented of quantitative spectral emissivity measurements of the fundamental band of pure NO at temperatures between 300 and 800 K. The measurements were made in absorption, using inconel absorption cells with MgO windows. The cells were filled with NO at pressures of up to 5 atm and were heated in an electric furnace. By applying the statistical spectral-band model to small frequency intervals in low-resolution absorption spectra of the heated gas, we were able to derive the spectral-band parameters and thus to correlate the observed spectral absorptance with optical path length and gas pressure. The temperature dependence of the spectral absorption coefficient was in fair agreement with theoretical calculations made by Malkmus and Thomson.
