Abstract

A critical analysis of the wavelengths of 80 Fe I and Fe II lines (1964 A–1559 A) and 158 Cu II lines (1522 A–862 A) for use as wavelength standards has been made. Using only those lines in each spectrum which can be calculated by the combination principle to ±0.001 A or less and which give a smooth dispersion curve, relative measurements of the remaining lines have been carried out, thus placing all of the spectra on a consistent wavelength scale. It is believed that the revised wavelengths are self-consistent to ±0.0013 A but may contain a systematic error of 0.002 A. Comparison of various multiplet intervals confirms the reliability of these data.
