Abstract

Some parallel vibration-rotation bands of allene and allene-d4 between 3–5.2μ have been resolved, and values have been obtained for the rotational constants. The values of B0 for the two isotopic molecules are 0.2974 cm−1 and 0.2313 cm−1, and in both cases DJ is not greater than about 10−8 cm−1. From these values rCC=1.30A, which is lower than rCC in ethylene, but close to the value found spectroscopically in ketene. Some earlier results of Eyster for a parallel band of allene have been reconsidered and reasons for the different value of B0 found by him have been suggested.
