Abstract

The angular distribution of intensity of light scattered by spherical particles whose index of refraction with respect to the surrounding medium is 1.33 has been computed for values of α (circumference of the particle divided by the wavelength of the incident beam) equal to 6.0, 8.0, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40. The results are presented in tabular form and give the intensities of the two incoherent, plane-polarized components of the scattered light as well as the real and imaginary parts of the complex functions from which the intensities are computed for angles of observation in the range 0° (10°) 170° and 170° (1°) 180°. A sample light-scattering diagram for α=40 is included.

The tabulated values were calculated and checked by high speed computers; they extend considerably the range of values previously published.
