Abstract

Chalcogenide glasses (ChGs) possess distinctive characteristics, including broad infrared transparency, high nonlinearity, and exceptional processing capacities, rendering them ideal for developing compact and efficient photonic integrated circuits. The polarization management component is essential in the polarization diversity circuit to overcome the strong polarization dependence of ChG photonic devices. This paper proposes and demonstrates a high-performance ChG TE-pass waveguide polarizer (WP) and a polarization beam splitter (PBS). The extinction ratio of the TE-pass WP is measured to be 45.3 dB at the central wavelength, while the −20 dB bandwidth is 100 nm. For PBS, the fabricated device shows an extinction ratio for TE and TM polarizations can reach as high as ∼30 dB and ∼16 dB over the 65 nm wavelength range, while the measured insertion loss is < 0.73 dB for both polarizations.
