Abstract

We study and compare different options that allow reducing the coating diameter of single-mode fibers below 180 μm, and we discuss the associated cable miniaturizations and densities. Combining reduced-diameter fibers, benefiting from G.657.A2 trench designs and low primary coating Young's moduli, with reduced-size loose tubes allows developing micro-duct cables with record densities.
