Abstract

In the paper, various noise sources in delay-line optoelectronic oscillators (OEOs) with all-optical gain are analyzed. It is shown that mutual conversion of amplitude and phase noises occurs in OEO due to its non-linear time-variant dynamics. The correlation between amplitude and phase fluctuations influences the noise power spectrum density of the OEO output signal. Methods for reducing the amplitude and phase noise mutual conversion in OEOs and consequential phase noise performance improving are proposed.
