Abstract

Four years ago I presented to the Society for Applied Spectroscopy some preliminary results of a research program designed to develop optical spectrochemical methods for determining major constituents in geological materials. This material was incorporated into a rather general talk on quantitative emission spectrography. Further work has since been done on this program, not with the limited goal of developing methods for the exclusive use of geologists, but rather using the important problem of silicate analysis as an experimental attack on the general subject of determining major constituents.
