Abstract

In recent years there has been an increased interest on the part of spectrochemists in the employment of controlled special atmosphere spectral excitation. The early emphasis in this work was on the displacement of nitrogen from the excitation region, when carbon electrodes were used, in order to attenuate cyanogen bands. More recently the trend has been to recognize and to take advantage of the spectral effects observed with special atmospheres.
