Buffer Effects in the Spectrochemical Analysis of Niobium-Tantalum Mixtures

Abstract

Numerous procedures <i>(1-4, 6, 9)</i> have been reported for the spectrochemical analysis of refractory materials, including niobium and tantalum, using buffer admixtures. Typical buffers, which have been used, include graphite, lithium carbonate, copper, silicon dioxide, zinc oxide, gallium sesquioxide, germanium dioxide, and lanthanum sesquioxide. In the development of dc arc procedures for the determination of low concentrations of niobium in tantalum and of tantalum in niobium, the study of the effect of various buffers on the precision and sensitivity of the methods was undertaken.
