Abstract

Coatings could be damaged under high power laser radiation because of the large electric field amplitude inside the films. By analyzing admittance loci and electric field distribution of multilayer thin films, we design mirrors with low electric field amplitude. The maximum electric field amplitude can be further reduced by using the simplex method. Both all-dielectric and metal–dielectric mirrors have been designed in this way.
