Abstract

Recently Perry et al [1] showed that self-phase modulation (SPM) in CPA lasers can degrade the quality of the compressed pulse. Even in the absence of spectral broadening, a B-integral of ~1 can produce uncompressible wings; this result could be very significant for experiments which require clean, high-contrast pulses.
