Abstract
It is now well established that microplasmas with very interesting properties can be generated by tightly focussing femtosecond laser pulses on the surface of solid targets. One of the most exciting aspects of these plasmas is that they represent a point source of X-ray emission, possibly with subpicosecond pulse duration. Most of the previous work on X-ray emission from plasmas produced by femtosecond laser pulses was concerned with the soft X-ray regime, roughly around 100 eV. Here we report observations of X-ray emission in the regime above 1 keV.
