Abstract

Most investigations of subpicosecond phenomena have relied upon visible, and near-visible, pulsed femtosecond sources, usually based on dye laser technology. The development of the Kerr-lens-modelocked Ti:sapphire laser has extended the tuning range of high power femtosecond sources into the near infrared. We have exploited (1) the short pulse and high intensity characteristics of this source to construct an externally and synchronously pumped, high repetition rate optical parametric oscillator (OPO) tunable from 0.9 to 4.5 microns, average power as high as 150 mW and with pulse width below 70 fs.
