Abstract

High-order harmonic generation from atoms and ions cuts off in accord with the simple rule: Ec~ Ip+ 3Up. This cutoff rule as well as the lack of a cutoff in high-order electron energy spectra can be understood via a simple extension of existing two step quasi-classical models.
