Abstract

Spatial light modulators (slm's) are electro-optic optical transducers. They are capable of imposing spatially and temporally varying optical intensity information from a signal beam onto a separate probe beam. This isolation of input and output signals allows wavelength, coherence and intensity conversion1. Here we report on the continuing development of a GaAs photoconductor based lclv. Having assessed various candidate photoconductor materials on the basis of intrinsic resistivity, light absorption depth, hole mobility and broadband sensitivity GaAs was identified as being a promising material for use in fast optically addressed lclv's.
