Abstract

Since the evidencing, in 1982(1), of the electroabsorption properties of semiconductor multiquantum wells, numerous researches were conducted on materials, physics(2) and demonstrators devices(3). The very short response time (limit < 1 ps) was revealed since the beginning. The relatively moderate contrasts (typically 2 : 1) of the first studies, were recently improved to 100 : 1(4) by the combination of MQW's and Fabry-Perot effects.
