Abstract

Recently, semiconductor nanometer-sized microcrystallites (nanocrystals) are attracting much interest, because their optical properties are much different from bulk crystals. Their distinct optical properties are caused by three-dimensional confinement of phonons as well as electrons, holes and excitons in small volumes. The interaction between the confined electrons and phonons is an important factor that determines the optical properties.
