Abstract

This paper is a summary of a conference on subsurface damage in glass that was held in Tucson in April, 1989 by the American Society for Precision Engineering. The conference was held to see if there was a consensus that subsurface damage did exist and did affect optical system performance. The answer was yes in both cases. Additional papers discussed methods of detecting subsurface damage and means of minimizing subsurface damage (SSD).
