Saturation of the ultrafast laser-induced demagnetization in nickel

Abstract

We show saturation of the sub-picosecond demagnetization in nickel at high excitation densities, conclude that spin relaxation is incomplete, and associate the demagnetization with collapse of the Stoner gap due to band filling effects.
