Abstract

Excitonic superradiance is one of the interesting aspects of mesoscopic systems, such as semiconductor microcrystallites. The oscillator strength is proportional to the exciton coherence volume in the microcrystallites. The mesoscopic enhancement of the oscillator strength has been observed to yield the large radiative decay rate of CuCl microcrystallites, in which the translational motion of excitons is quantized.1,2 In this paper, we report the superradiative decay in CdS microcrystallites, in which the electron motion is individually quantized and the hole is bound to the electron by Coulomb interaction.
