Abstract

Weak localization is the phenomenon of enhanced backscattering from a random medium as a result of interference, and is interpreted to be the precursor to strong (Anderson) localization,1,2) Up to now it has not been possible to find localization in a 3-D sample. The prediction is, that in an infinite 2-D system, any degree of disorder will lead to localization, while in 3-D a certain critical degree of disorder is needed. In a 2-D system, even if it is finite or suffers from some loss, it might be possible to obtain Anderson localization.
