Abstract
The ultraviolet-visible and the infrared absorption spectra of co-doped crystals with 0.03wt.% Fe2O3 and various concentrations of M (M=In, Mg) were detected to investigate their defect structures. By increasing the concentration of M, we observed a shift of the absorption edge and OH- peak for MNb (M replaces the normal Nb sites ) when M exceeded its threshold value. The shift of the OH- absorption peak in Mg: Fe: LiNbO3 is larger than that in In: Fe: LiNbO3. At the same time, the optical damage resistance ability of M: Fe: LiNbO3 crystals is two orders of magnitude higher than that of Fe: LiNbO3 crystals.
