Abstract
Measurement of optical quality of an intraocular lens (IOL) has been defined by ANSI standard Z80.7 in 1984.1 The minimum required resolving power of the IOL is 100 line-pairs per millimeter (lp/mm) in air using 3 mm aperture. For IOLs of typical powers, this resolution represents approximately 30% of the resolving power of a diffraction-limited lens. Previous studies demonstrated that most US. manufacturers provided high quality PMMA IOLs in terms of ANSI standards.2,3 In order to follow recent technology advances, a committee of manufacturers and ophthalmologists has been convened to revise the ANSI standards Z80.7 - 1984.
