Abstract

Lidar has been under active development since the mid 1960’s, starting soon after the first demonstration of laser action. During the intervening years, the Lidar research community has established a solid record of technical achievement. Measurements of aerosols, specific gaseous species, pressure and temperature have been made at enormous ranges, into very low density regions of the atmosphere, simultaneous with extremely high spatial and temporal resolution.
