Abstract
An accurate modular computer code has been developed at the Geophysics Laboratory for calculating the non-LTE vibrational temperature of important emitters in the Earth’s upper atmosphere. This code was first developed and applied to CO2 ν2 emission (P.P. Wintersteiner, this meeting). We will describe the application to CO(v=1) which although simpler since it is clearly a two-level problem, is more demanding of an accurate treatment of radiative transfer for a number of reasons.
