Design of the Wide Band Dichroic Filter for Transmitting Visible and Reflecting Infrared Bands

Abstract

The beem-splitting technique of the visible and infrared band is an important method of multispectral scan in remote sensing technology. Using optical film technique is a simple and efficient method to make the beamsplitting. In this paper a wide-beam dichroic filter for transmitting visible and reflecting infrared bands is described, which is designed on the basis of the metal films with properties of both high reflection for infrared and induced transmission for visible bands. The combined thin film stack designed is a dieletric-metal-dielectric thin film system. Experimental results are presented: the transmittance of the dichroic filter in the visible region is 80-88 %, while it's reflectance in the intermediate and far infrared region is 90 %.
