Abstract

This paper discusses an approach to the problem of reducing the scatter and improving the figure of a system of nonlinear diamond turned optics. Following a cosmetic polish to reduce scattered light, the components are assembled in their final mounts. After testing for system wavefront error, one of the optics is figured using a specially designed in situ semiautomatic polishing machine.
