Abstract

We have developed a plastic optical fiber (POF) sensor using novolac resin, which swells in alcohol, as the cladding material. In this study, we added a polystyrene layer between the POF core and cladding. This layer was designed to prevent alcohol adsorption into the polymethyl methacrylate core. Consequently, we developed a POF sensor capable of selective and repetitive ethanol detection.
