Abstract

The strain / wavelength relationship of a Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) written in Polarization Maintaining (PM) optical fiber is characterized by way of tension test on an ASTM D638-Type1 specimen. The spectral shifts are translated to mechanical strains then validated with 2-dimensional digital image correlation (DIC) analysis.
