Abstract

Generation of Cherenkov radiation in a silica optical fiber by relativistic electron beam is investigated as a new method of observing temporal and spatial distribution of intense electron beam(250-600 keV, 100-400 A/cm2). The results show that the emitted radiation intensity is proportional to the current density of electron beam and has short fluorescence decay time. The diagnostic technique we have developed has been demonstrated to provide real-time monitoring of a large aperture high power electron beam accelerator system for KrF excimer laser pumping.
