Abstract

Use of embedded optical modules in highly IO dense systems such as network switches or routers has the potential to deliver solutions with overall lower power consumption. We consider this from a historical perspective and consider implications of these new architectures, with SerDes power savings of 50% possible by moving to embedded modules.
